Spent most of Thursday afternoon at the hospital getting checked out. Chalking this all up to a mini training setback - CF always keeps you on your toes!

After chest pain stopped my 50km attempt last Saturday, and with some rest and some easy runs, I was feeling better. But things took a turn when, after an interval session on Wednesday, I had a small lung bleed.

These things happen with cystic fibrosis and it’s normally a sign of an infective exacerbation or inflammation in my lungs - which I had a sense might be the case with all the chest pain...

Fortunately, I had a hospital visit scheduled for Thursday anyway so I was able to tag on a review with my doctors.

Good news: my x-ray looked clear, my lung function numbers are normal and the CF team didn’t ask for a full stoppage of training! I’ve started some oral antibiotics and some meds to help stop the lung bleeds, but the team aren’t too concerned. The physio suggested taking exercise down to low intensity for a few days, and keeping an eye on how my chest feels.

After getting home from the hospital, I had another little lung bleed and the whole thing’s left me feeling pretty wiped out and sore. No running yesterday, but I managed a 30 min easy session today to flex the airways a bit.

So I’m going to be tentative with what I can do for the next week whilst things are clearly a bit raw but will hopefully come back from this soon!

And in the meantime, Yuebi is still hammering out the miles. He hit a half marathon PB today: boy can run fast when I’m not wheezing behind him!
